Instructions for Writing Technical Documents (Ancient page)

Any technical document submitted as an Assignment Answer is required to comply with the IEEE Proceedings format included in this page. The technical document must be handed in as a pdf document created using LaTeX and the LaTeX macroes below necessary to format the document according to the requirements.

For those of you wishing to download a suite of tools to your own PC, MikTex and WinEdt seem like popular choices. Plenty of hints and faq pages are available on LaTeX on the web. You may wish to have a look in The Not So Short Introduction to LaTeX 2e, a reasonably well-written reference guide to LaTeX 2e. Or just Google "Latex help ..."?

To help you get started, take the following steps:

  1. create a directory and download the above files to this directory
  2. print the instructions file report9.pdf
  3. generate a sample document using report.tex. At the end, the file report.pdf is generated and should look exactly like the instructions you have just printed out. Or maybe a sample slideset using slides.tex?

For MicroSoft hardliners a PowerPoint template for the presentations has been prepaired, ready for use.

You may now edit the contents of files to create your own technical document. Once you are satisfied, the report.pdf file is handed in as the assignment answer by uploading the file to the Upload section on the CampusNet. Please observe that a full page of text corresponds to approximately 2 standard pages of text.
